Boulevard

Boulevard is definitely a heart touching scenery. It is good to walk in greenery road while enjoy the nature. Psychologically it gives benefit to your mind and makes it calm. It’s hard to access boulevard in town. In the picture, you can see boulevard like scenery. Actually, it is an ordinary road in a village.  It is not use by crowd and it resulted to leave the nature untouched.

Boulevard

I did not put much effort to click. I was careful to avoid white space that would make the image over expose since there are too many shadows. It’s hard to play between too dark shadows and over expose. Also, I found a curve road to make good looking. I was looking for lengthy and good curve. However, I clicked since it is not studio to arrange stuffs.

Tiger's paw | daylight & shadow

This is an image of bud of as tiger's footprint aka tiger's paw. Its botanical name is Ipomoea pes-tigridis. Its leaves have tiger's paw lookalikes. In the image, you can see bud which has fur. Actually, this bud is not like other buds. It is like a basement of flower. Therefore, you can see the bud after the blooming too. Technically, I do not the about bud, and it might be something else.

Tiger's paw | daylight & shadow

I took this image in daylight while using shadow as background. Due to rough background, I did some Photoshop touch in order to increase strong and dark background. I am quite happy about this black background since I did not use black screen or studio setup. 250 mm lens gave more advantage on background. However, due to daylight, I was able to capture details of the image. Therefore, you can see fur. Lesson: Good daylight & shadow can give more advantage near studio setup. This could be natural studio!

IAI Ghost UAV | A Photoshop creation

For a change, I would like to write about completely Photoshop work with zero use of camera / photography. If you are good at Photoshop, you can create anything where camera has no access to take a shot or you may create from your imagination.

IAI Ghost UAV
IAI Ghost UAV

Do you know IAI Ghost? It is an UAV (Unmanned Ariel Vehicle) that uses for reconnaissance. It was developed by IAI (Israel Aircraft Industries). It has similar appearance of Chinook helicopter. But Ghost is mini with 4 kg weight and 1.45 meter (4.7 feet) length. It can fly up to 4 km during 30 minutes flight time with the maximum speed of 64.8 km/h (40 mph).

I have used Path to create body frame and some gadgets. Also, I used Shape tool for creating some objects. Blur filter effect was supportive to make rotors’ spinning effect. Layer style was helpful for making color effect over the body. It took nearly 30-45 minutes to complete the tasks. Have a try!

Bird photography | Nest

Many of you could have experienced the challenge in bird photography. Those who do not understand bird’s behavior would not get good shots unless there are random lucky clicks. If you do understand, you can produce stunning shots. You should have lot of patient and do observation.

Eggs of Tailorbird
Eggs of Tailorbird

I was watching a common tailorbird (Orthotomus sutorius), which is hard to catch by camera lens due to its swift moving and small size. Continues observation resulted to find her nest. Once you find the nest, you must careful to approach. If go to the nest while the bird was seeing you, it could abandon the nest and build somewhere else. Therefore, make sure that not to disturb her and give burden to the tiny bird. When I approached the nest, I got a bonus. Yes, the nest had four eggs! So, quickly I did a few clicks. Here, I did not concentrate much on techniques, but I was keen to click rare chance. By the way, I used a prosumer camera, not a DSLR. I used in-built flash ride off darkness.

Camera settings:
  • Aperture size: f/4
  • Shutter Speed: 1/8 sec.
  • ISO: 80
  • Focal length: 11mm
  • Flash: Yes

Still photography | Ring

Still life or still photography is very easy photographic field. Unlike other areas of photography, it gives more control to photographer. You can control the light. You have enough time to prepare. If you fail to get what you like, you can try more shots. If you do wild photography, you have limited control. You can no control on the object, light, direction, etc.

In the image, you can see a ring with a synthetic gemstone. It was placed on a light green folder to get a nice background since the main object’s color is maroon. Purposely, shallow depth of field was used. Therefore, you cannot see clear visibility of the ring and its frame. Main aim was to get the image of gemstone in blurry background, and f/4 aperture was enough to blur the background. In addition, Reynox macroscopic lens (model M-250) was used. Macroscopic lens added more DoF. In-built flash was set to -2 in order to avoid harsh light and reflection on the stone.

Camera settings:
  • Aperture size: f/4
  • Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec.
  • ISO: 200
  • Focal length: 55mm
  • Flash: Yes
  • Macro lens: Reynox 250

Food photography | Fruits

Food photography is an art in photographic field. Some people may think that food photography means cooked food or human made/ prepared meal. Actually, it means all things that can be eatable items including fruits.

Food photography | Fruits
Food photography | Fruits

In this picture, you can see hedge boxwood fruits (Drypetes sepiaria). It is crimson color small fruits and dark green glossy leaves. This is eatable fruits, but not much available in markets. Trees are not grown in gardens or farms. It grows in forests. Also, it is seasonal fruit. Therefore, it is very hard find fresh fruits, except in a few local markets.

The image is taken by unprepared method, and it is not studio shot. During a tour in a forest, I was able to plug some fresh fruits. So, I placed some leaves and fruits on a white paper and then clicked. It was not quite sharp, but I was happy to get good picture of rare fruit. Crimson color fruits with dark green leaves in a white background are plus point on this image.

Photographing Butterfly

Butterfly and beauty are always good combination. Colorful butterflies get attention from kids to adults. When it comes to photographing butterfly, you should to have some basic setups. First, you should have camera with zoom lens or macro lens. Zoom lens is ideal to capture butterflies that always keep distance from people. Macro lens is ideal for close shots of butterflies that could stay closer to people. Secondly, you should have patience. Some butterflies flies faster, some flies like zigzag and some never stay calmly.

Common Jezebel (Delias eucharis)
Common Jezebel (Delias eucharis)

In this picture, you can see Common Jezebel (Delias eucharis) which is medium size and bit faster. But when it sits on flower, you could have nice view and significant amount of time. Also, the Common Jezebel is one of the beautiful butterflies. It has scarlet like reddish, yellow, white and black borders. The color combination and patterns especially spearhead and heart shape on edge give additional elegancy.

Due to 250 mm focal length, it gives nice blur background and slightly bokeh. The bunch of reddish small flowers adds more beauty to scenery. In addition, I have made a thick frame. A nice frame could give additional beauty to the image. However, it is not good idea to create frame all your photographs. You may try with a few pictures. The frame is created through Adobe Photoshop. Shutter speed was 1/250 for reducing blur due to wing movement. If aperture size was f/11 or more high number, it could create more sharpness on the objects – butterfly and flower.

Camera settings:
  • Aperture size: f/5.6
  • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec.
  • ISO: 200
  • Focal length: 250mm
